Ovid's intention was to state how some thing were created and if we want to get more phylosophical, he wanted to state the clear difference between the obsession and the love of someone.

The story starts explaining us that Zeus went to the forest t play with the nymphs, Hera tried to find Zeus in the act but always a nymph called Echo appeared to her and chatted with her to give time to Zeus and the nymphs to escape. One time Hera discovered that Echo tricked her and put a curse on Echo, she could only repeat the last word of what other said.

Obne day, a beautiful young man called Naricssus was hunting a deer through the forest and Echo was spying on him. She fell in love with him, Narcissus realized that someone was following him, Echo ran ran to his arms but Narcissus pushed her away and told her that he would rather die than to love her. Narcissus ran away from her, Echo was sad so she went walking through the forest until she find a mountain and she decided to live there.

Narcissus continued hunting until he fund a hidden lake. He was thirsty, so he kneeled to drink some water, but he saw that someone so handsome was looking at him, he fell in love with that person so Narcissus tried to kiss him. He realized that it was his own reflection so he cried and his tears made the reflection disappeared. He spent a lot of days admiring his reflection until he died. The nymphs looked after his body but they only found a flower near the lake. Echo, in her cave, felt devastated after Narcissus death, and little by little she faded away and from her it was only left her lonely voice heard in the mountains after someone's last words.
